Wu Hsing-kuo in King Lear

Its that time of year again, as the Edinburgh International Festival opens for an eclectic season of music, dance and theatre.

This year an innovative series of Asian-themed adaptations of Shakespearian begins with the Contemporary Legend Theatre's take on King Lear.

In a unique combination of the gorgeous gestures, exquisite movement and extraordinary stagecraft of traditional Chinese Peking Opera, the celebrated actor from Taipei, Wu Hsing-kuo adapts themes and relationships from Shakespeare's monumental tragedy of power and deception, King Lear.

The one-man show by Contemporary Legend Theatre

Combining richly embroidered and colourful costumes, dazzling martial arts, contemporary dance, traditional live music and song, Wu creates an hypnotic experience for all the senses.
