| Imelda Staunton as Mrs Lovett and Michael Ball as Sweeney Todd |
Laced with characteristically brilliant wit and dark humour, it tells of Sweeney Todd's return to London after years of false imprisonment, and his savage quest for justice and retribution. Aided and abetted by the pie-shop owner, Mrs Lovett, he sets out to avenge the wrongs done to him and his family many years before.
Combining Grand Guignol with the English music hall, Sweeney Todd is a fascinating portrait of a man driven to madness by injustice and grief.
Michael Ball (Hairspray, Les Misérables, The Phantom of the Opera) plays Sweeney Todd.
Imelda Staunton (Vera Drake, Harry Potter, Entertaining Mr Sloane, Guys and Dolls) plays Mrs Lovett.
Director Jonathan Kent was Artistic Director of the Almeida Theatre for twelve years, and has had an international career in both theatre and opera.
