In 1978 he made his New York debut the American Symphony Orchestra at the Carnegie Hall, in a concert of Shostakovich and Sibelius.
Since the 1990s he has become a regular guest conductor in the New York Philharmonic and the Cleveland Orchestra. In 2002 joined the Conductor Collegium of the Russian National Orchestra. He has also worked with many other prestigious orchestras throughout the world, and in 2002 joined the Conductor Collegium of the Russian National Orchestra.
He is considered an authority on the composer Sibelius, by such luminaries as such as Sir Simon Rattle.
